George Law

Sheffield International College Prospectus

Way back in 2010, I spent a year (my first ever year away from China) studying at Sheffield International College (SIC) specifically social science. In 2011 I graduated with distinction. Two years later, SIC approached me again, but this time to create a work on project creating a prospectus of students who achieved 100% attendance.

It felt amazing to be back at the place where my adventure started bringing back memories of the time spent working my hardest to get into one of the top journalism departments in the country. In fact, most of my course mates quit before the first exam and only three of us in my class passed the final interview and language requirements.

They reason they hired me this time was because it was a good way to showcase what their former student can achieve after graduating from the college.

Later I met the academic skills team (see photo below) again at the wedding of my first ever couple, also my former teacher Amy's wedding. They told me how much they loved the photos, actually her original words were: "that's the best photo of us!"

Children’s Day UK

I was offered the chance to work with Sheffield-based social enterprise Youth Can Achieve to celebrate the first Children’s Day in the UK on 20th Nov. In order to create a brand for the project, I started everything from scratch, including designing the logo, coding the website, writing and sending out press releases, managing PR and social media pages and also taking photos at the conference. The project had some high-profile backers such as NSPCC, UNICEF and Sheffield City Council. It showed up in both the print and online version of The Star and also attracted over 800 Twitter followers in less than two weeks.

Don’t Feed The Bears

Don't Feed The Bears is an independent T-shirt label from Sheffield, established in early 2010. All the T-shirts and jumpers in store are created from original sketches and screen printed by hand.

Each T-shirt design starts as a sketch by the designer Lucy in her heavily used and much loved notebook. After she's worked her magic, the t-shirts are sent through to be screen printed by Tom. A shirts are made by hand in their Sheffield studio.

We did a photo shoot with Don't Feed The Bears of their latest collection in 2012 and I put together a behind the scenes blog post for S1 Magazine's website. bear-01

One Wedding

I have been working with One Wedding to produce innovative wedding photos and videos since they first started the business. After a year working as a secondary shooter and assistant, I officially became their PR and social media manager.

I always believe that branding is the primary element for a business, especially in creative industry. As for One Wedding, their friendly tone and customisable service are what interest their clients the most. Oh and their photos and video of course. We decided to start this competition to give away a wedding highlights video to a lucky couple for free.

After the campaign adverts and press release were published in some local mainstream publications, including a full right-hand page on Exposed Magazine, print and online version of The Star, a strong audience (all clambering to get their hands on a free video) was built. This as a result significantly increased the reputation of One Wedding and generated hundreds of likes on their Facebook page.
