Fashion & music promo photography is something I always want to combine with a little bit of creative twist. This time I teamed up with FilmTank and Release Records to photograph THIRD ≡ PARTY‘s new merchandise line TOGETHER Worldwide for their launch promo.
To match the overall branding the guys requested the street & outdoor photography to add a touch of film-y grainy effects, plus a super chill and casual feeling. We started the day by wandering around the fabulous Manchester Northern Quarter. There are just so many locations that make awesome backdrop! I particularly like the red brick all and colourful graffitis. They really showcase the roots of Manchester’s creative scene.
Later in the day we move indoor to NQ Studio based in the heart of Northern Quarter. Along with the full set of studio lights they had onsite, FilmTank Jim brought some LED sticks that adds an extra kick of the neon lights vibes. A little music promo photography tip for colour combination: pick two colours on the opposite sides of the colour wheel to compliment each other.
After the sunset we went for another stroll on the street. Looking for places at have neon light signs and shop front.
August Bank Holiday is always the busiest weekend in summer. Running between SW4 in London and Creamfields in Cheshire (heart of England yeh) this year, I managed to capture some precious moments at both massive music festivals in the UK.
As a music photographer based in the UK, shooting gigs and festivals around the world was and is always my dream job. Yes I literally dream about capturing artists on stage!
Having the trust from the artists and promoters to shoot their concerts and events is an awesome feeling. During that time, I have been able to experience many wonderful moments. Not just on the stage but with the people I have met along the way.
About #GigCapture
To remember all the best moments I had as a music photographer, I started my #GigCapture series on Instagram. Posting one photo from a gig everyday.
I believe my portfolio is very important to myself. Always try my best to photograph every event to the absolute best of my ability. By constantly looking for new angles and build my collection of images. I never just go through the motions, or photograph every event the same. Essentially, I want everything I photograph to be honest and raw. Creating photos that best reflect the atmosphere and what music brings to the crowd.
The style of my photography is very much documentary and photojournalistic. As mentioned previously, I try to capture those in-between moments and behind the scenes. Those are the heart of what the DJs, artists, crowd and party are all about.
If you want to see some more of my images or find out more upcoming music events happening in the UK, you can send me a message via our contact page. No matter the size of your party, the destination of your event or however unique it is, I want to be involved in your night.
So this marks my second year at Creamfields 2017. Great to see so many familiar faces during our annual reunion in the heart of England!
This year I was commissioned to photograph a few artists, including Hardwell, Eats Everything, Claptone and more. I was also invited on stage with Above & Beyond to push the button! (not CDJ but the camera shutter button, hah!) Along with my role as a music festival photographer, I also had an interview with our one and only Armin Van Buuren. You can check out the post here – Interview: Armin Van Buuren at Creamfields 2017. It feels good to be back to my music journalist root!
